The recordings on this page all have been recovered from cassette tapes made on some low-end cheap-ass machine with 2 sub-quality mics. Quality may vary from crappy to holy sh*t this is crappy. And I say, You should have heard them before I digitized them. There is a certain nostalgic quality that is a must in order to stimulate the memory sensors to place you at the then and there of these musical and cultural times. Caution: play only at very high volume! More will be added as I sort through the boxes & boxes of tape. Please write me to add/change/include your comments and photos, to this page.
RECOVERING OLD TAPES
A note about playing old tapes from the 1980’s. Tape manufacturers used a poor quality “glue” to adhere the emulsion to the plastic tape. This glue absorbed moisture over time which causes the emulsion (where your sound tracks are stored) to slide off the tape surface. You can prevent this from happening by baking your tapes first. It is suggested you bake the tapes in a convection oven set on about 125 degrees for 4 hours. This will evaporate the moisture. After baking you will get a couple of good passes over the tape heads. Keep you tapes in a dry place (I live in Florida so I put them in ziplock bags).
